New England Patriots QB, Tom Brady still currently has a 4 game suspension, which is not only bad news for Patriot fans, but bad news for fantasy football owners as well. Before Brady’s entire four game suspension came hammered down on him, I had Brady as a top 5 or 6 Fantasy Quarterback. Now, I still have him in my top 10, but a little lower on my rankings board. As of now, he’s ranked 8th. Whether you find yourself needing a QB in the later rounds, or whether you think Brady would be a nice fantasy backup to Andrew Luck, feel confident in taking Brady. Here’s a short article on why you shouldn’t hesitate to draft Tom Brady later in your fantasy football draft.

Last season, you might remember that the Patriots started the season horribly. And I mean they were bad. They produced very low scoring numbers, and after four weeks found themselves with a 2-2 record. And it’s not like Brady played great. In fact he played terrible. In his first four games, he only threw four passing touchdowns, and a very low 791 passing yards. Fantasy owners wanted no part in Brady after this, including myself… After about week 3 or so, I gave up on Brady, and let him go to the waiver wire. In hindsight, that was a very poor decision. In Week 5, everything turned around. Brady and the Patriots came out, and destroyed the Cincinnati Bengals on a Monday Night game. That game was the start of a seven game win streak, and in those games, Brady just went OFF. Take a look at his stats in those seven games :

  • Week 5 (Bengals) – 292 passing yards, 2 TD, 0 INT
  • Week 6 (Bills) – 361 passing yards, 4 TD, 0 INT
  • Week 7 (Jets) – 261 passing yards, 3 TD, 0 INT
  • Week 8 (Bears) – 354 passing yards, 5 TD, 0 INT
  • Week 9 (Broncos) – 333 passing yards, 4 TD, 1 INT
  • —BYE WEEK —
  • Week 11 (Colts) – 257 passing yards, 2 TD, 2 INT
  • Week 12 (Lions) – 349 passing yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

Total : 2860 passing yards, 22 TD, 4 INT

So as you can see, Brady did play his first four games last season, but he didn’t play great, and it wasn’t until week 5 where Brady and the Patriots started to dominate. During the span of the games above, Brady was one of the best fantasy players to own, and made a lot of people regret giving up on him. Trust me, he did. And when Brady comes back this year, his schedule isn’t hard either. He has a few tough defensive match-ups in teams like the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, and the Buffalo Bills, but other than that it looks pretty good. What I expect from Tom Brady when he returns to the field this season, is pure, and utter domination. Brady is nothing but a winner, and will play at another level whenever he gets back on to the playing field. So if you need a QB later in your daft, you can’t go wrong with Tom Brady, however, make sure to draft another good QB around the same time. One with an easier first four games. And if you find yourself with a player like Andrew Luck already, don’t hesitate to draft Brady either. Then you would have two great QB’s which if you handled the situation wisely, you could very well end up champion of your league. So take my advice, and don’t feel gutsy taking Tom Brady late in your fantasy draft.
